Warriors World

Okay, here’s a rare FriscoVista sports post. The only sport I really follow is professional basketball, and my team is the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors forum I like is warriorsworld.net. This recommendation comes with a warning: a lot of these guys are quarrelsome, obnoxious, boorish, ignorant, sophomoric, and crude. Several posters are homophobic, and occasionally some idiot will post racist or misogynistic content. And the mood of the board swings wildly: after every loss they want to fire the coach and trade all the players, and after every win they expect to go to the NBA finals. But the board should not be judged on the basis of a few loose canons. These guys are avid about their team, and I like this site better than the more antiseptic Golden State of Mind. There are some contributors here who are pretty knowledgeable about the NBA. Click the screenshot to visit the site.

But if you are a rabid fan, all is forgiven?

  2. Nancy asks “But if you are a rabid fan, all is forgiven?”.

I would suggest it’s more a matter of “if it’s an unmoderated, open-participation forum on the internet, many of the participants with the most time on their hands will be young and immature, and subject to juvenile behaviors not preferred by many adults.

Fifteen years ago, when access was harder to come by, it was a different on-line world. These days, if a forum seems to spend a lot of time in junior high school territory, it’s probably because many of its participants are, indeed, in junior high school.

    So it goes.

  3. yes Nancy, all is forgiven. The entire world, and especially the internet is not the over sensitive, Politially Correct, Fempire that San Francisco is. get over yourself.

  4. You could say the same thing about Americans. Does that mean that you are a homophobe because you share citizenship with a bunch of quarrelsome, obnoxious, boorish, ignorant, sophomoric, and crude people?

Maybe in any large group of people, you’re going to get some folks that you aren’t necessarily holding up as the standard bearer of what your ideal person would be.

  5. I’ve been traveling and away from the internet (this post was prescheduled). Individuals who frequent the forum should not be confused with the forum itself. WW.net is a good one, and I agree with the decision of the moderator, Del, to apply a light hand. I like a lot of the guys who hang out there. But it’s not for everyone.
