I guess your view of SF MOMA’s new website depends on what you are looking for in a website. Whistles, bells and more flash than the fireworks on the 4th of July. Check, check and check again. Good, large sized images of the art collection plus relevant information and links. Not so much. I realize that we are Silicon Valley North and have a lot of underemployed computer geeks that love to write code but I sure wish they’d looked at a few more museum websites – like the Metropolitan’s for instance – to get a better idea of what a really good museum website should look like. Along those lines, I like the Asian’s website but they could have a lot more images and indepth information as well.

I know that SFMOMA spent a long time working on their site, and I’m sure they checked out a large number of other museum sites. This was a big undertaking for them.

There’s a kind of divide regarding the web — some people just want to get to the information but others prefer pizazz. So it’s hard to please everyone. But I’m with you: I would rather not be bothered with a lot of Flash bling.
